Modal fiber is a high wet modulus viscose fiber developed by Lenzing Austria. The raw material of the fiber is beech wood from Europe, which is made through a special spinning process.
Its dry strength is close to that of polyester, and its wet strength is stronger than that of ordinary viscose fiber, which combines the excellent texture of natural fiber with the practicality of synthetic fiber. Modal fiber has more luster and softness than cotton, excellent size stability, good strain recovery rate, alkali resistance, good moisture absorption, pre-shrinkable, mercerizable, better strength, high wet mode, cotton feeling but better quality than cotton. Pure modal fabric strength, elongation are greater than cotton fabric, not easy to tear, can be used for underwear and other clothing.
Modal is popular with lingerie, home textiles, clothing fabrics, but the wearing process is easy to pilling, production costs are more expensive, fabric production and processing process is easy to produce fabric folding cross file and other problems. Therefore, at present, most of the fabrics containing modal fiber are made of modal fiber blended or interwoven with other fibers.
Application of modal fiber blends
Given the many advantages of modal fiber, it has become an ideal fiber material for soft and comfortable knitted and woven garments, which can be purely spun or blended. However, because of the pure modal fiber the fabric is relatively soft, poor conformability, and easy to pilling, affecting the appearance of the fabric. Modal and cotton blend

Modal and colored cotton can be blended to improve the phenomenon of uneven dyeing, and can make good use of their respective strengths.
Modal and linen blend
Ramie fiber has many excellent properties and is an early natural cellulose fiber used in apparel. However, due to the high fiber stiffness and uneven striping during spinning, it is easy to form coarse knots and short pile and produce a prickly feeling.
